The cycle shapes how girls feel, focus and function. It's time they understood why.
For many students, puberty brings pain, fatigue, anxiety and significant mood changes, often without any understanding of what is happening in their body or what is considered normal.
Most students will menstruate for over 40 years of their life. Yet many enter adulthood believing that period pain, severe PMS and exhaustion are simply something they must tolerate.
Early menstrual health education changes this trajectory. When students understand their cycle from the beginning, they recognise when something is not normal, manage symptoms effectively, and stay engaged at school through puberty and adolescence.
of school aged students report problems with classroom concentration during menstruation.

Most menstrual health education focuses on hygiene and biology. Flow and Bloom is different. Our workshops are built on three foundations.
Delivered by a Registered Nurse with eleven years of paediatric and adolescent nursing experience. Every concept is grounded in clinical evidence, age appropriate, and aligned with best practice in adolescent health.
Hormonal fluctuations directly impact mood, anxiety, energy and emotional regulation. When students understand this connection, they stop interpreting cyclical changes as personal failings and start recognising them as predictable patterns.
Students leave with body literacy, practical tools and language to advocate for themselves. Not with shame, fear, or a sense that menstruation is something to be endured in silence.
Each workshop runs for 60 to 75 minutes and is delivered to small, class sized groups of approximately 25 to 35 students. Not large year level assemblies. Small groups create the safety students need to engage authentically.

I really loved learning about period pain and ways I can support my body to help myself with this. It was so cool to understand what our body is doing throughout the cycle and why we feel so different!

An Adolescent Health Registered Nurse and Certified Fertility Awareness Educator, with 11 years of experience working with children and adolescents.
I spent eight years as a Registered Nurse at the Queensland Children's Hospital in Brisbane across a range of paediatric and adolescent specialties, with a strong focus on health promotion and adolescent wellbeing.
I went on to play a key role in developing and opening Queensland's first Adolescent Day Program at the Gold Coast University Hospital, supporting young people experiencing mental health and wellbeing challenges within a multidisciplinary team.
Through this work I saw a significant gap in young people's understanding of their menstrual cycle, and the profound impact this has on emotional regulation, energy, pain and overall wellbeing during adolescence. I have been delivering menstrual cycle education to adolescents and young adults since 2021.
